Grind Pulp FICTION Podcast Episode 36.5 - The Barbarian Mouse of Asshtar

Skeletron says, "SUBSCRIBE OR DIE!"
Actually, Skeletron doesn't say anything, ever.

Returning once again from an alternate reality where the 80s are the only decade that mattered, because mankind never saw beyond 1987, are the three purveyors of pulpy pleasure. The stories were all picked to go along with Turbo Kid, a post apocalyptic action flick peppered about with 80s nostalgia. Andrew starts things off with Mouse: A Post-Apocalyptic Short Story. Anything but meek and quiet, Mouse is a girl who’s delivering more than just her mail in a bygone future. Jeronimo champions another entry in the Conan-inspired, apocalyptic, fantasy, Gunthar series with Gunthar and the Purple Priestess of Asshtar.  MangaMatt closes with a graphic novel coming from somewhere between a Friday night, drive-in B movie, and a Saturday morning cartoon with American Barbarian.

Lansdale.  Geronimo gives us an extra serving of pulpy goodness on our train car lunch tray with a weird western tale featuring magicians, mummies, and machine men in The Mummy Train by James Palmer.

Grind Pulp Podcast Episode 34 - Bubba Ho-Tep

You know what sucks? Feeling like you’re getting old. You know what also sucks? Getting forgotten in a retirement home. What doesn't suck? A movie about getting old in a retirement home and fighting a reanimated mummy that wants to eat your soul. This episode tackles the geriatric gem that is BUBBA HO-TEP. Geronimo and Andrew spotlight some of the pitch-perfect performances of Bruce Campbell and Ossie Davis among other featured actors. MangaMatt, meanwhile, regales everyone with the bygone years he spent working in a nursing home and punctuates the unique perspective this movie gives. Yet another episode to pass the time while you're waiting for the nurse to apply lotion to that festering growth.

Grind Pulp FICTION Podcast Episode 33.5 - The Umbrella Academy Meets a Burning Necrosaurus Rex

Holy shit balls. This episode goes out there on a seriously silly political tangent with the discussion focusing, for a moment, on authors who think their readers share the same political views as they do. Andrew’s got a bone to pick, but how can he offend GPP listeners? If you’ve heard the guys give each other hell in past episodes, don’t miss this one, especially if you’d like to hear about some good ol’ Grind Pulp!

Feature story picks:
The Umbrella Academy: Apocalypse Suite - by Gerard Way and Gabriel Ba
Necrosaurus Rex - by Nicholas Day
Burning Men: A Nathaniel Cade Story - by Christopher Farnsworth

Grind Pulp Podcast Episode 30.5 - Space Race

Pairing with "Attack the Block,” the short stories this time around deal with conflicts surrounding the topic of race juxtaposed with the ugliness that racial prejudice can bring out in people. Andrew's pick is a Neo-Pulp adventure in the vain of Conan meets Flash Gordon, where we see what lies within the "Lost Vaults of Mars.”  Sometimes the cost of everything is everything as we get into a heavy discussion of race and politics when talking about "Space Traders.”  MangaMatt closes the episode with a Kickstarter-funded horror-action comic pitting a down and out baseball team against a town of demonic derelicts in "Sullivan's Sluggers".

Story Picks:

The Lost Vaults of Mars by: Steve Dilks from Lost Winds of Mars

Grind Pulp Podcast Episode 29 - Get to the Chiroptera!

The Grind Pulp Podcast delves again into the macabre and manic with MangaMatt's pick, "Blood: The Last Vampire".  A short slice of animated action and ardent.  Is the movie more style over substance?  If it is, is that a bad thing?  MangaMatt waxes the digital effects and the legacy the film garners, while Jeronimo and Andrew discuss the movie's unique choice of setting and story-telling angles.  Shakespeare said, "Brevity is the soul of whit," and the Grind Pulp Crew put this maxim to the test to find out if minimal dialogue and plot can achieve maximum satisfaction.
